The 1.6 MW solar power plant, installed in cooperation with partner Reenpro, started operating on the territory of ‘Kurana’ and ‘Tube Green’. This project will significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels and ensure that biomethane production becomes even more environmentally friendly.
‘Since the beginning of our operations, we aim for our factory to be energy-independent and environmentally neutral. The solar power plant is a natural step towards this goal. Now we can say that our biomethane factory not only produces green fuel, but also the greenery itself,’ says the head of Kurana. and Jurgis Polujanskas, a member of the board of Tube Green.
Green energy production – directly from the sun
The newly installed solar power plant consists of 2,250 solar modules, modern inverters, cable systems and advanced monitoring equipment. The system allows you to monitor the operation of each module in real time, analyze production and optimize the use of energy.
The total power of the solar park is 1.6 MW, and the planned annual amount of electricity production is 1600 MWh. All of this energy will be used for the production needs of companies, making Kurana and Tube Green even more sustainable and less dependent on market fluctuations.
‘Today, not only what we produce, but also how we produce it is important. The solar power plant helps us ensure that every cubic meter of biomethane is made from renewable sources, and the CO₂ trace is minimal,’ notes J. Polujanskas.
Sustainability is not a motto, it’s everyday
The Tube Green biomethane factory in the Pasvalis area has been operating since 2023. September. This is the first factory in Lithuania connected to the main gas pipeline, so the produced biomethane enters the national gas system directly. About 100,000 MWh of biomethane is produced here per year, which is equivalent to the amount of energy capable of supplying 110,000 inhabitants or meeting even 26% of the demand for the Lithuanian transport sector.
Biomethane production allows to reduce CO₂ emissions to 88% compared to fossil fuels, and all activities are based on the circular economy model – nothing is thrown away, everything is used. Non-food grains and food waste are converted into bioethanol, but biogas is produced from production waste, from which Tube Green extracts biomethane.
In the near future, it is planned to expand the capacity of the solar power plant to 3.5-5 MW. In this way, a greater part of the energy would be produced by the companies themselves, further strengthening the energy autonomy.
