“Creation of liquid second-generation biofuel production capacity at UAB “Kurana”.

UAB “Kurana” plans to install a factory where denatured ethyl alcohol (bioethanol) will be produced from unusable industrial waste – such as starch suspension waste (SFL) and food waste – in the food or feed supply chain.

This project addresses several important issues:

  • dependence on fossil energy resources. The production of bioethanol will reduce the dependence on oil and other fossil fuels, which cause significant damage to the environment and the price of which is unstable.
  • climate change. Bioethanol is a clean and sustainable source of energy that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
  • waste management. The project will allow efficient use of raw materials, such as food and starch suspension waste, which usually end up in landfills.

The main goal of the project is to create a second-generation liquid biofuel production capacity that will allow for the production of a clean and sustainable source of energy, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and contributing to the solution of climate change problems.

During the project, new equipment for the production of the second generation bioethanol will be purchased and installed. The company’s employees will be trained to work with new equipment.

All necessary licenses and permits will be obtained and bioethanol production will begin.

The project plans to achieve the following results:

  • The annual production volume of bioethanol will reach 4.99 ktne.
  • Dependence on fossil fuels will be reduced.
  • greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced.
  • Industrial waste and residues that are not suitable for use in the food or feed supply chain will be used efficiently.

The project is financed with the funds of the “New Generation Lithuania” plan for revitalizing the economy and increasing resilience.
